Today In The Upper Cumberland: Foster Parents

Centerstone’s Jessica Branch discusses what it takes to become a foster parent.

The waiting lists are long – foster children in the Upper Cumberland needing a home. From infants to teens, there are just more young people in the system than there are places for them. If you’ve ever considered, even just briefly, the thought of being a foster parent, now is the time to seriously think about it. Centerstone offers foster parents information on the process. Jessica Branch leads the foster children efforts in our community for Centerstone.

High School Playbook: White Co Warriorettes Win District Title Over Rhea Co

York Institute, Upperman, and DeKalb County also land spots in Region Tournament

Every week on The High School Playbook, we break down high school games from around the Upper Cumberland. Since losing their season finale at Stone Memorial, the White Co Warriorettes won three consecutive games over Warren, Stone and Rhea County to claim the district Title. The Lady Bees are in the Region Tournament after finishing second in the District Tourney, one that Head Coach Dana McWilliams recognized as having some of the best talent in the area. The Lady Tigers are headed to the Region after a third-place finish in the District Tournament. Head Coach Danny Fish says he likes the toughness he saw, and he just wants to see more consistency. Hear from coaches from across the Upper Cumberland as we talk basketball on this week’s High School Playbook.

High School Playbook: White Co Lands In District Tournament With Win Over Stone Memorial

DeKalb County Tigers eliminated Macon County, fall short against Cannon County.

Every week on The High School Playbook, we break down high school games from around the Upper Cumberland. The White County Warriorettes are in the District Tournament Championship after knocking off Stone Memorial in overtime. Gracie Dodgen sent the game to overtime with her leaning three-pointer that she banked in as time expired, punctuating a fantastic stretch of games for her, as she scored a team-high 18 points in the win. The York Institute Dragons have taken massive steps in overall improvement as a team this season, despite their lack of depth, boasting one of the best top-to-bottom starting lineups in the Upper Cumberland, and each player was rewarded with all-district honors. The DeKalb County Tigers played spoiler in the District Tournament, as they eliminated Macon County and were within a single possession of knocking off Cannon County.
