Japan’s Emperor Naruhito takes the throne

Japan’s new emperor officially ascended the throne in an ancient ritual. Emperor Naruhito donned a copper-colored robe, like that worn by his great-great-grandfather. The monarch took part in a 30-minute ceremony and even stepped up a canopied, 21-foot-high throne to give a speech. He received three “banzai” cheers from the audience, wishing him a long reign. Naruhito’s father abdicated the throne in May. He is the 126th emperor in the world’s oldest hereditary monarchy. Source

“Horrifying” images: Alanis Morissette opens up about her postpartum depression

As we get ready for Wednesday’s special live audience show, “Stop the Stigma: A Conversation About Mental Health,” we are focusing on the mental health of mothers. Grammy Award-winning singer Alanis Morissette is sharing her nearly decade-long experience with postpartum depression. In an essay on her website, the 45-year-old revealed she’s dealing with the condition for a third time. Up to one in seven women experience postpartum depression which can appear days or even months after delivering a baby. Mireya Villarreal reports. Source

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wins second term

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau won a second term Monday. Trudeau faced a close race against conservative Andrew Scheer following a series of scandals late in his campaign. Last month, Trudeau apologized after old photos surfaced, showing him in blackface and brownface. Source
