Man hit with $650K medical bill for emergency back surgery gets relief

On Monday, we introduced you to Frank Esposito, who was hit with more than $650,000 in bills after an emergency back surgery. While his insurer covered some of the costs, he still owed $220,000, more than a year later. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo saw the story and sent CBS News the following statement. “I am pleased to announce today that the insurer has agreed to make sure that Mr. Esposito is not stuck with these bills.” Consumer investigative correspondent Anna Werner, who has been following this story, joins “CBS This Morning” along with Dr. Aaron Carroll, who studies medical care and costs to discuss ways you can avoid huge medical bills. Patricia Heaton on starring in new CBS comedy: “It’s my turn”

Actress Patricia Heaton won two Emmys for playing Debra Barone in the hit CBS show “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Heaton is returning to CBS as the star of the the new series “Carol’s Second Act.” In it she plays Carol Kenney, a divorcee in her fifties who pursues her dream of becoming a doctor. She joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss what it’s like being number one on the call sheet. Source

“It heightens our concerns”: Lawmakers read whistleblower complaint

A whistleblower report that led House Democrats to launch an impeachment inquiry may become public Thursday. It is the focus of Thursday’s hearing on Capitol Hill. President Trump’s acting director of national intelligence will answer questions from the House Intelligence Committee. Joseph Maguire refused for weeks to let Congress see the whistleblower’s story about a phone call, where the president asked Ukraine’s president to investigate Joe Biden and his son.
