From 2008: Doris Day, the “Girl Next Door”

One of the most popular and enduring stars of film, music and television was Doris Day (1922-2019), who in later years retreated for the most part from the public eye, devoting her life to animal rights causes. In this “Sunday Morning” report which originally aired July 13, 2008, correspondent Jerry Bowen talked about Day’s career, her Hollywood legacy, and her privacy with biographer David Kaufman, author of “Doris Day: The Untold Story of the Girl Next Door”; cabaret singer Mary Cleere Haran, who created a one-woman show dedicated to the songs of Doris Day; and Day’s friend and frequent co-star Kaye Ballard. Jeff Daniels says he’s waited for a role like Atticus Finch in “To Kill a Mockingbird” “forever”

Actor Jeff Daniels is nominated for a 2019 Tony Award for his portrayal of Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird.” The story shines a light on racial prejudice in the deep South by focusing on Finch’s defense of Tom Robinson, a black man wrongly accused of assaulting a white woman in the 1930s. Daniels joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss his latest role and his Tony nomination. Source
