“Safe Third Country” agreement with Guatemala is “an insult to common sense,” Congresswoman says

The White House announced Friday it had signed an agreement with Guatemala that would require any migrants who pass through that country to seek asylum there. If the law takes effect, migrants who are apprehended in the U.S. would be deported Guatemala despite their country of origin. U.S. Rep. Norma Torres of California, the only member of Congress originally from Guatemala, joined CBSN to discuss the agreement, which she called “an insult to common sense.” Source

“Old Coots” dole out wisdom at Salt Lake City farmer’s market

Every summer Saturday, a group of senior citizens in Salt Lake City take questions and give advice from a stand at the farmer’s market. Under the banner “Old Coots Giving Advice,” lines of locals form to glean wisdom from these old souls. Steve Hartman reports from “On the Road.” Source

Online petition to move Halloween gains momentum

An online petition to make Halloween the last Saturday in October has gathered more than 63,000 signatures. It’s sponsored by the Halloween and Costume Association, which says it’s safer for kids to trick-or-treat on the weekend. To honor the petition, Congress would have to make Halloween an official holiday — and that doesn’t appear to have a ghost of a chance. Source
