The issue of growth and the negative effects it can have for law enforcement.

What demands are we placing on law enforcement as we continue to see new homes, new businesses and new citizens moving into our community? Captain Bobby Anderson and Major Scott Winfree from the Cookeville Police Department join us to share the changes they’ve seen and expect, and how they are dealing with a decline in applicants and potential candidates.

Today In The Upper Cumberland: Human Trafficking Part Two

We continue our talk about helping victims. Part Two of Human Trafficking.

The United States is experiencing a growing number of cases all across the nation, and in our region. Today In The Upper Cumberland we continue our talk about the survivors and victims of human trafficking. Human or sex trafficking is a problem that begins in small ways. Law enforcement agencies work to rescue those they can, and groups like Second Life Tennessee help those affected by it. We talk with Second Life Tennessee director Jerry Redman about the role they play and how they try to offer help.

The issue of suicide among celebrities, middle aged men and other age groups.

A growing number of people are choosing to commit, or attempt the act of suicide. Across the country there has been an increase in the last several years. Laura Tedesco, Vice President of Crisis Services and Anne Stamps, Director at Plateau Mental Health Center in Cookeville join us as we try to understand this issue. How we address those who need help and the resources available in our area.

Today In The Upper Cumberland: Sexting

The growing number of teens engaging in sexting, messages with sexual content.

It’s risky behavior that exposes them to potential predators, bullying among their peers and often a sense of shame. Messages, images and in some cases videos of a sexual nature or with explicit content.  Cookeville High School guidance counselor Lori Strode and Detective Roger Cooper with the Putnam County Sherriff’s Department join us to examine this dangerous and growing trend and its impact.
