We’ll talk live with coaches and players from across the Upper Cumberland. We’re breaking down the reasons why your favorite team won. We’re introducing you to the hometown stars that light up the field every Friday night.

High School Playbook: Monterey Gets Set To Open Against Red Boiling Springs

Jackson County hunts for their third straight win against Westmoreland Friday.

Every week on The High School Playbook, we break down high school games from around the Upper Cumberland. The Monterey Wildcats get set to take on Red Boiling Springs in their season opener while Clay County opens region play against Jo Byrns. White County looks to go 2-0 after defeating Cumberland County. Meanwhile, Jackson County hunts for their third straight win to open the season after a dominant win over Sale Creek. DeKalb County is looking for consistency on Special Teams after two weeks of play. High School Playbook: Cookeville Goes 2-0 With Win Over Livingston

Warren County also improves to 2-0 with 48-0 blowout victory over Cannon County.

Every week on The High School Playbook, we break down high school games from around the Upper Cumberland. Cookeville improves to 2-0 with a 33-18 win over Livingston Academy while Upperman uses a strong third quarter to take down DeKalb County. CJ Taylor and Warren County also improve to 2-0 with a 48-0 blowout win over Cannon county. Meanwhile, Pickett County cancelled Friday night’s game against Sunbright due to COVID. Looking ahead to tonight, York Institute will take on Oneida at 5:00 Saturday night in Jamestown, and Cumberland County squares off against White County in Sparta Saturday night at 7:00. High School Playbook: Recapping Week 1 Of High School Football

Jackson Co beats York Institute 8-0; Livingston beats Westmoreland on the road.

Every week on The High School Playbook, we break down high school games from around the Upper Cumberland. With week 1 of the high school football season in the books, we check in with the coaches to see how their teams have been handling the unique challenges that this year has brought to the season. Monterey and White County each miss the first week of the season due to COVID. The DeKalb County Tigers lose a hard fought game to CJ Taylor and the Warren County Pioneers, while Jackson County creates five turnover in an 8-0 victory over York. Livingston Academy over comes early miscues to beat Westmoreland on the road. The TSSAA State Tournament has been suspended following the coronavirus pandemic

In a week unlike any other in high school basketball, 3 of our 4 Upper Cumberland teams land Quarterfinal wins in the TSSAA State Tournament, while 4 boys teams score sectional wins and are headed to Murfreesboro. The opponent now, however, is the coronavirus. We check in with the head coaches of the teams that played while we wait to see just what will happen, and when it will happen, regarding the suspended TSSAA State Tournament. High School Playbook: York Institute, DeKalb Co, & Pickett Co Girls Coaches Call In Live

Cookeville, Stone Memorial, and Van Buren County head coaches also call in live.

Every week on The High School Playbook, we break down high school games from around the Upper Cumberland. It was an offensive struggle last night early for both York and Cumberland County, but the York Institute girls won 64-57. They’ll face Upperman Monday at TTU with their season on the line. DeKalb County girls controlled their game from the outset for a win on the road at Sequatchie County 71-48. Kadee Ferrell led all scorers with 22 points. They’ll face the best team in 2A basketball Monday night, Macon County, at TTU. Pickett County Lady Bobcats dominated South Pittsburg 68 to 25 last night in Byrdstown, and are on a collision course to face the Lady Buffaloes again in the Region Finals. High School Playbook: White Co Warriorettes Win District Title Over Rhea Co

York Institute, Upperman, and DeKalb County also land spots in Region Tournament

Every week on The High School Playbook, we break down high school games from around the Upper Cumberland. Since losing their season finale at Stone Memorial, the White Co Warriorettes won three consecutive games over Warren, Stone and Rhea County to claim the district Title. The Lady Bees are in the Region Tournament after finishing second in the District Tourney, one that Head Coach Dana McWilliams recognized as having some of the best talent in the area. The Lady Tigers are headed to the Region after a third-place finish in the District Tournament. Head Coach Danny Fish says he likes the toughness he saw, and he just wants to see more consistency. High School Playbook: White Co Lands In District Tournament With Win Over Stone Memorial

DeKalb County Tigers eliminated Macon County, fall short against Cannon County.

Every week on The High School Playbook, we break down high school games from around the Upper Cumberland. The White County Warriorettes are in the District Tournament Championship after knocking off Stone Memorial in overtime. Gracie Dodgen sent the game to overtime with her leaning three-pointer that she banked in as time expired, punctuating a fantastic stretch of games for her, as she scored a team-high 18 points in the win. The York Institute Dragons have taken massive steps in overall improvement as a team this season, despite their lack of depth, boasting one of the best top-to-bottom starting lineups in the Upper Cumberland, and each player was rewarded with all-district honors. The DeKalb County Tigers played spoiler in the District Tournament, as they eliminated Macon County and were within a single possession of knocking off Cannon County. High School Playbook: York Institute Earns Double-Bye After Solid Regular Season

All five York Institute starters receive recognition and earn district honors.

Every week on The High School Playbook, we break down high school games from around the Upper Cumberland. The White County Warriorettes have punched their ticket to the region tournament, after a win that Head Coach Michael Dodgen said was the first one he’d seen in weeks where he thought his team was having fun. The York Institute Dragons earned a double-bye after a solid regular season that saw all five starters on their team earn district honors. While he sees them everyday in practice Head Coach Russell Tays likes that other coaches also give them that recognition. The DeKalb County Tigers had three players earn all-district honors, and Head Coach John Sanders was appreciative of the fact that their hard work was rewarded by other coaches.
