Some 9% of the U.S. population will deal with an eating disorder at some point in their lives. Most of those are women, though eating disorders also affect men. Did you know that eating disorders are the second most deadliest mental illness in the United States second only to opiod addiction? What can be done for those who deal with eating disorders? What are the warning signs for you as a parent that a teenager might be developing an eating disorder? Elizabeth Rodgers works with Personal Growth Counseling of Cookeville.

As the state legislature prepared for a special session on education, figures about learning loss came forward. For example, Tennessee third graders – a 50% drop in reading, a projected 65% drop in math proficiency with COVID one of the main reasons. But what do the numbers really mean? Monday, the General Assembly will begin a special session on education. Specifically, issues facing education as a result of COVID-19. One of those is reading – an estimated 50% drop in reading proficiency among Tennessee students since the beginning of the pandemic. But the problem goes much deeper than that. We look at reading and Tennessee’s young people with State Education Commissioner Dr. Penny Schwinn.

CRMC’s Dr. Lee Taylor discusses the FDA’s new emergency use COVID treatment.
Cookeville Regional Medical Center began using a new treatment this week for the most at risk COVID patients. This new emergency use drug came from the FDA, and it has proven to be very successful in studies up to 70% effective in keeping people out of the hospital, and at reducing symptoms. Dr. Lee Taylor is Cookeville Regional Medical Center’s Chief Of Staff.

Domestic violence survivors share their stories to help others with their words.
The number of domestic violence cases across the nation and here at home rose significantly during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the numbers have not decreased. Today we’re focused on domestic violence, and the things that many of us don’t understand about the issue. Two survivors of domestic violence wanted to come forward to share their story. First of all as an inspiration to those who may be fighting themselves to get out of a domestic situation, but also for the rest of us to better understand this problem. We have granted their request to remain anonymous.
