High School Playbook: York Institute, DeKalb Co, & Pickett Co Girls Coaches Call In Live

Cookeville, Stone Memorial, and Van Buren County head coaches also call in live.

Every week on The High School Playbook, we break down high school games from around the Upper Cumberland. It was an offensive struggle last night early for both York and Cumberland County, but the York Institute girls won 64-57. They’ll face Upperman Monday at TTU with their season on the line. DeKalb County girls controlled their game from the outset for a win on the road at Sequatchie County 71-48. Kadee Ferrell led all scorers with 22 points. They’ll face the best team in 2A basketball Monday night, Macon County, at TTU. Pickett County Lady Bobcats dominated South Pittsburg 68 to 25 last night in Byrdstown, and are on a collision course to face the Lady Buffaloes again in the Region Finals. Lady Bobcats have led the state in scoring several years in a row. Hear from their head coaches and more from across the Upper Cumberland as we talk basketball on this week’s High School Playbook.

Today In The Upper Cumberland: Foster Parents

Centerstone’s Jessica Branch discusses what it takes to become a foster parent.

The waiting lists are long – foster children in the Upper Cumberland needing a home. From infants to teens, there are just more young people in the system than there are places for them. If you’ve ever considered, even just briefly, the thought of being a foster parent, now is the time to seriously think about it. Centerstone offers foster parents information on the process. Jessica Branch leads the foster children efforts in our community for Centerstone.

Today In The Upper Cumberland airs each weekend as a way to introduce you to interesting people and subjects of interest to our community. Catch the show each Saturday morning at 6 on Rock 93-7, 106-9 Kicks Country, and at 8 on Lite Rock 95.9.

High School Playbook: White Co Warriorettes Win District Title Over Rhea Co

York Institute, Upperman, and DeKalb County also land spots in Region Tournament

Every week on The High School Playbook, we break down high school games from around the Upper Cumberland. Since losing their season finale at Stone Memorial, the White Co Warriorettes won three consecutive games over Warren, Stone and Rhea County to claim the district Title. The Lady Bees are in the Region Tournament after finishing second in the District Tourney, one that Head Coach Dana McWilliams recognized as having some of the best talent in the area. The Lady Tigers are headed to the Region after a third-place finish in the District Tournament. Head Coach Danny Fish says he likes the toughness he saw, and he just wants to see more consistency.
